What is the Difference between Regular plants and Genetically Modified Plants?

FORTIFIED RICE: This genetically engineered crop of rice near Plymouth, N.C., was planted by a California biotech company. The rice has extra protein.

One of the topics that has had ongoing research for a while, but has never been brought up in the mainstream, the topic is genetically modified plants. Like many other things, this has two sides to it, those in favor of it and those against it.

Those who are in favor of it say that it provides massive amounts of food that weren't possible before. This can help countries become independent, and can help countries that are starving.

Those who are against it claim that it's self defense "systems" (toxins it releases to keep bugs away) are harmful to eat, and can change the flavor.

While both of these sides feel strongly that the other is wrong, each side has good arguments to back themselves up. It seems that it will take a long time for this to finally get settled one way or the other.
